If there is a will to turn tables then there is a way to do it. This colorful pre-wedding photoshoot downtown Athens, in the center of the open food market at Rentis, is jaw-dropping and joyful. I love people who dare to be open minded and ready to jump into an out of the box approach of a photography session. I love diversity and individuality!
Expressing your intimate feelings in front of a camera is revolutionary and liberating at the same time. But doing so in an open food market sets new meaning in the definition of daring. As a personal photographer, I am all in for couples in love and expressions that glow and whatever makes one happy and glue a genuine smile on their face.
And speaking of smiles, Vassiliki is one of the most sparkly ladies I have ever met! Her luminous smile can make your day no matter how gloomy it is. Dimitris has a killing sense of humor and it was quite a challenge to hold my camera stable on the day of their pre-wedding shoot. This easy-going couple loves street food and I was over the moon when we decided to do the shoot at Athens biggest open food market (Renti’s market) where one of the most famous burger spots is located: Überness.
The ÜBERNESS canteen occupies three old butchers in Renti’s Market and turns them into an avant-garde canteen. Outstanding butcher elements, cement and rusty beams make up a hard setting. This food truck looking scenery was founded by the need of Vasilis Kallidis to create a menu inspired by the street food canteens of the National Road and his midnight cravings.
Vassiliki and Dimitris wanted to keep alive the special moments of their love story before the wedding. To underline the bond they have with this location. Unforgettable photography sessions have two indispensable elements: genuine love and sense of humor. Having these in a photo shoot then feels like a walk in paradise. The couples are relaxing and they enjoy the walk with their wedding photographer.
For the adventurous and food-loving couples, city food markets can hold far more allure than monuments, museums and elite venues. Even for photographers, the open food markets is where we go whenever we need an inspiration for new photos.
The Food Market of Rentis or Athens Central Market is located on an area of approximately 60 acres between the National Road Athens – Lamia, G. Papandreou Avenue, John Kennedy Street and the OSE lines in a square fenced area with sides of about 300 meters. The need for a large market that could serve the whole of Attica was created in 1950 because the two older markets could not serve the needs of traders. The area of Rentis was chosen mainly because of its location, it was very close to the intersection of the two national roads, something that was convenient for all the traders of the Peloponnese and northern Greece. Finally, 800 shops were built and the inauguration took place in October 1959.
The food market belongs to the district of Agios Ioannis Rentis. The history behind the name is quite fascinating. It was named to honored the homonymous church in the central square of the city that belonged to the family of Rentis. This family has been established since the 14th century when the nobleman Dimitrios Rentis settled in Athens where he helped the Catalans against Rainerio “Neri” Acciaiuoli. For his help, he received as a reward a large area of estates in today’s area named Rentis.
Rainerio “Neri” Acciaiuoli was an Italian aristocrat and merchant from Florence of the Acciaiuoli family, who first succeeded and became the baron of Vostitsa (1363-1391), the Corinthian and Duke of Athens (1388-1394), the originator of the family of the Acciaiuoli family, dukes of Athens.
You see, storytelling photography needs both parts in the story to tango. Beautiful captures don’t just happen… both ends must surrender in the flow in order to create the perfect line of their photo story. Of course, great chemistry and interesting backdrops are equally important. But between you and me, a capable and mature photographer can work miracles with the right light and from the right corner!
Athens has amazing photography-friendly locations for couples that adore urban lifestyle. Even if someone loves country landscaping, Athens also offers several options. It is a good thing to live and work in a city that provides such a variety of backgrounds. Mountain, sea view, forest & elopement locations, downtown stage, rock scenery, romantic or luxury venues. Pick your style and I will give you the best theme location!
Remember that couples photography is a part of your wedding photography album. Both are capturing your individual style and vibes. There is no “right” or “wrong” way to do this, only your way. A pre-wedding session is not all about the fun and cute photos. For me it’s about taking the time and spend time with the couple, to get to know each other, to discuss details about their wedding day, their dreams, the day they’ve met…
I love letting my dear couples talk and let them free to express how they would like their wedding day to roll out: the preparation, the first look, the party! This is how I get a special glance into their wishes and get prepared for the wedding day, so to get the precious moments and be sure that all loved ones are in the memories I keepsake for them.

I am so happy that through my lens I have the opportunity to capture life moments and true emotions. My photography camera is the media that helps me tell a couple’s life story and protect memories from fading out. I am a memory keeper. Ready to freeze time and the beauty of life in every single click. Priceless moments that are the treasure of every wedding and can be shared with loved ones in the future to come.
The best compliment I have ever received in my professional life was from a Wedding in Tinos. The couple told me: “Monika you have a warm quality that makes people instantly relax and smile…”
The power of photos does not stop at the feelings you experience when you see the subject that appears on them. It goes much deeper by remembering the beauty of the moments behind the camera, the exact jiff you’ve made that tiny, little, instantaneous click.
For me, photography brings into my mind the most wonderful, joyous, relaxed and happy moments spent with my special one or family or friends… So, to an extent, you can say that a good photographer has superpowers… being able to recreate priceless memories that otherwise can be misplaced in our labyrinthine minds… And Fiorello Photography is here to keep your memories alive!
