Colorful Pre-Wedding
If there is a will to turn tables, then there is a way to do it. This colorful pre-wedding photoshoot in downtown Athens, at the open food market in Rentis, is jaw-dropping and joyful. I love people who dare to be open-minded and ready to jump into an out-of-the-box approach to a photography session. I love diversity and individuality!
Expressing your intimate feelings in front of a camera is both revolutionary and liberating. But doing so in an open food market gives a new meaning to the word “daring”. And speaking of smiles, Vassiliki is one of the most sparkly ladies I have ever met! Her luminous smile can make your day no matter how gloomy it is. Dimitris has a killer sense of humor, and it was quite a challenge to keep my camera steady during their pre-wedding shoot. This easy-going couple loves street food and I was over the moon when we decided to do the shoot at Athens biggest open food market (Renti’s market) where one of the most famous burger spots is located: Überness.
The ÜBERNESS canteen occupies three old butchers in Renti’s Market and turns them into an avant-garde canteen. Outstanding butcher elements, cement, and rusty beams make up a challenging setting. This food truck looking scenery was founded by the need of Vasilis Kallidis to create a menu inspired by the street food canteens of the National Road and his midnight cravings.
Vassiliki and Dimitris wanted to keep alive the special moments of their love story before the wedding. To underline the bond they have with this location. Unforgettable photography sessions have two indispensable elements: genuine love and a sense of humor. Having these in a photo shoot then feels like a walk in paradise. The couple is relaxing, and they enjoy the walk with their wedding photographer.
Open Food Market Rentis
For adventurous, food-loving couples, city food markets hold far more allure than monuments, museums, and elite venues. Even for photographers, the open food markets are where we go whenever we need inspiration for new photos.
The Food Market of Rentis, or Athens Central Market, is located on an area of approximately 60 acres between the National Road Athens – Lamia, G. Papandreou Avenue, John Kennedy Street, and the OSE lines, in a square, fenced area with sides of about 300 meters. The need for a significant market serving the whole of Attica arose in 1950 because the two older markets could not meet traders’ needs. The area of Rentis was chosen mainly for its location; it was very close to the intersection of the two national roads, which was convenient for traders from the Peloponnese and northern Greece. Finally, 800 shops were built, and the inauguration took place in October 1959.
The food market belongs to the district of Agios Ioannis Rentis. The history behind the name is quite fascinating. It was named in honor of the homonymous church in the city’s central square, which belonged to the Rentis family. This family has been established since the 14th century, when the nobleman Dimitrios Rentis settled in Athens, where he helped the Catalans against Rainerio “Neri” Acciaiuoli. For his help, he received as a reward a large area of estates in today’s area named Rentis.
Rainerio “Neri” Acciaiuoli was an Italian aristocrat and merchant from Florence of the Acciaiuoli family, who first succeeded and became the baron of Vostitsa (1363-1391), the Corinthian and Duke of Athens (1388-1394), the originator of the Acciaiuoli family, dukes of Athens.
